Operator tips for driving electric pallet trucks on ramps and slopes(figure1)

Ramp and slope navigation is one of the most common high-risk scenarios in daily electric pallet truck operation, whether in warehouse loading zones, outdoor yard transition areas or multi-level storage facilities. Unstandardized operations in these scenarios may lead to cargo slippage, equipment tip-over or personal injury, so mastering targeted operation tips is critical for all frontline operators.

Before entering any sloped area, complete necessary pre-operation checks first. Confirm that the carried load is fully stacked and securely fastened, no part of the cargo exceeds the rated load capacity of the equipment, and the load weight is evenly distributed on the pallet fork surface. Check that the battery power is sufficient to support the whole sloped traveling process, avoid sudden power loss midway that may cause the equipment to stall on the slope. Also, survey the surface condition of the ramp in advance, confirm there are no potholes, loose sundries, oil stains or other obstacles that may cause skidding, and verify that the slope gradient does not exceed the maximum allowable value specified in the equipment operation manual.

When traveling uphill with loaded pallet trucks, always keep the load facing the uphill direction, move at a steady, low speed, avoid sudden acceleration, sudden steering or sudden braking actions during the whole process. Do not allow any part of your body to lean out of the equipment operation boundary to prevent accidental collision. When traveling downhill, keep the load facing the uphill direction as well, never move the equipment in reverse direction downhill with heavy loads for long distance, control the traveling speed at a level that you can stop the equipment immediately in case of emergencies. Do not turn on any ramp or slope under any circumstances, even if you find you have missed the target unloading point, you need to drive to a flat, designated safe area to adjust the traveling direction, to avoid the risk of side tip-over.

If you encounter unexpected skidding or stall during slope traveling, do not jump off the equipment hastily. Steadily control the operating lever, slowly brake the equipment to a full stop at a relatively stable position, set the parking brake firmly, and then handle the follow-up issues. Never park the electric pallet truck on any non-designated ramp or slope area after finishing the operation, always move the equipment to a flat, solid ground, lower the pallet forks completely to the ground, and engage the parking brake before leaving the operation position. Following these standardized operation tips can effectively reduce safety risks, extend the service life of the equipment, and create a safer and more efficient material handling working environment for all logistics practitioners.
