Warehouse loading and unloading zones are high-traffic areas with frequent personnel crossing, temporary cargo stacking and limited operation space, where improper electric forklift operations can easily lead to collision, cargo falling and other safety incidents. Unlike internal combustion forklifts, electric forklifts run on battery power with quieter operation that may reduce the warning awareness of surrounding staff, so implementing standardized safety procedures is particularly necessary to eliminate hidden risks.
Before any operation in loading and unloading zones, operators must complete full pre-use checks first. They need to confirm the battery power is sufficient to avoid sudden shutdown in the middle of the operation, test the brake function, warning light and horn to make sure all safety components work normally, check the fork surface for obvious deformation, and clear small obstacles around the operation path. Only staff with valid operation qualification can get on the vehicle, and they need to wear required reflective safety vest during the whole operation process.
When entering the loading and unloading zone, operators should keep the driving speed under the regulated low limit, and stay at least 30 centimeters away from the edge of the loading platform to avoid side slipping. If the loaded cargo blocks front sight, operators should drive backwards slowly or arrange a special on-site staff to give direction. Overload operation is strictly forbidden, and all cargos should be placed evenly at the center of the fork, the lifting height of the goods shall not exceed the specified safe value. No personnel is allowed to walk or stand under the lifted fork at any time.
For temporary parking in the loading and unloading zone, operators must pull the hand brake completely, lower the fork to 10 to 15 centimeters above the ground, and never block the emergency exit or fire access of the zone. When operators leave the vehicle for more than 3 minutes, they should cut off the power supply, pull out the key, and park the electric forklift at the designated parking area outside the busy loading and unloading zone.
Warehouse management teams can organize regular safety training for forklift operators every quarter, and carry out daily spot check on the implementation of these procedures. Once abnormal noise or brake failure appears during operation, operators need to honk the horn to remind surrounding personnel to evacuate, then move the vehicle to empty area slowly and contact maintenance personnel for inspection.
