Electric forklift brake-check procedures for daily safety verification(figure1)

Electric forklifts are widely used in warehouse logistics, manufacturing workshops and distribution centers for short-distance material handling operations. The brake system is one of the core safety components that directly affect operation stability and personnel safety. Conducting standardized brake check procedures as part of daily safety verification before each shift can effectively avoid preventable safety accidents, reduce unexpected equipment downtime, and ensure compliance with local occupational safety regulations.

Pre-check Preparation

Before starting any brake inspection work, operators need to park the forklift on a flat, open ground without obstacles or passing personnel nearby. Turn off the power switch, pull out the operation key, and set the vehicle to a safe state to avoid accidental sliding during the inspection process. It is also necessary to prepare the corresponding daily safety inspection record sheet to mark each inspection item in real time after the verification is completed.

Static Brake System Verification

The static inspection is carried out when the forklift is in no-power static state. First, check the appearance of the foot brake pedal, confirm there is no obvious crack, loose connection or abnormal deformation. Press the pedal slowly to feel its free travel, make sure there is no stuck, lag or abnormal loose feeling in the whole pressing process. Next, check the parking brake component: for hand-pull parking brakes, confirm the positioning gears are clear, and there is no slippery rebound when pulled to the maximum locking position; for electronic parking brakes, check the indicator light can normally switch between on and off state. For forklifts equipped with hydraulic brake systems, operators also need to check the connecting pipelines and sealing parts, confirm there is no brake fluid leakage, and no loose or fallen joints.

Dynamic Brake Performance Test

After all static items pass the verification, operators can clear the surrounding area, start the forklift at a low speed of no more than 3km/h, and carry out no-load dynamic test. Step down the foot brake steadily at a straight driving section, observe whether the forklift can stop smoothly within a normal distance, there is no offset to one side, no sharp friction noise or abnormal jitter during the braking process. Then move the forklift to a gentle slope with a gradient of about 5%, stop the vehicle, shift to neutral state, release the foot brake, and confirm the parking brake can hold the vehicle stably without slipping phenomenon.

Post-inspection Management

After all inspection items are completed, operators need to fill in the inspection results truthfully in the daily safety ledger. If any abnormal condition related to brake performance is found during the check, operators should paste an obvious fault warning mark on the vehicle immediately, and notify professional maintenance personnel to handle the problem, and it is strictly forbidden to put the faulty forklift into normal operation. Implementing this set of daily brake check procedures consistently can effectively reduce potential safety hazards, extend the service life of forklift brake components, and create a safer working environment for all on-site operation staff.
